Position: Lifeguard
Supervisor: Pool Manager

Pay Range: $14.81 - $15.15
General:
Under the general supervision of the Pool Manager and Assistant Pool Manager, maintains order and prevents dangerous and life-threatening behavior in and around the swimming pool, performs life-saving techniques as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Ensures the safety and well-being of the patrons of the Municipal Pool
· Enforces pool rules in a polite, but firm manner
· Maintains discipline in and around the pool area
· Reports for lifeguard duty on time, properly attired, and positions themselves so that adequate coverage is given to pool and pool areas
· Discourage swimmers, friends, or other lifeguards from congregating around the lifeguard stand
· Assists in cleaning the pool, pool area, deck, and locker rooms at the end of each shift, morning cleaning or swim session
· Review and practice swimming, lifesaving techniques, and first aid skills regularly
· Assist the pool office, guard house, and concession stand as needed or assigned
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Pool Manager or City Clerk
Responsibilities:
· Responsible for the lives and safety of all patrons of the pool
· Responsible that all duty items listed previously are taken care of properly and efficiently
· Responsible for conducting oneself in a mature manner and for exhibiting a positive and cooperative attitude at all times
· Responsible for cooperating with supervisor, other departments, and co-workers with the overall benefit to the City as the primary focus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of American Red Cross standards for lifesaving and water safety instruction
· Knowledge of and ability to enforce pool rules, regulations, and safety procedures
· Knowledge of emergency and notification procedures in the event of an accident
· Ability to work with peers and close friends yet maintain position of responsibility
· Ability to interact with the public in a positive and cooperative manner
· Ability to exercise good judgement with little or no direct supervision
· Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations
Education and Experience:
· Must possess a current Lifeguard Training Certificate and be registered with the Fremont County American Red Cross
· Possess first aid and/or CPR training certificate
· Must be 15 years of age
Physical Demands:
Work primarily in an outside setting with sitting, standing, and walking required. Requires the ability to lift and move objects up to 20 lbs. occasionally and consistently move objects. Requires communication with others to exchange information. Exposure to outside conditions such as heat, rain, and wind. Exposure to hazardous chemical and moving equipment. Working hours include weekends and holidays.
