Basic Qualifications:
To be considered for the position of police officer with the Florence Police Department, candidates must be met by the close of the application period.
- Must be 21 years of age
- Possess a valid driver's license (any state) at the time of application and obtain a valid Colorado driver's license by the date of hire
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Possess a high school diploma, GED, or high education
- Must be able to read, speak, and understand English
Disqualifiers:
The following is not an all-inclusive list of instances that may disqualify you from being a Police Officer with the Florence Police Department. Other standards may make you subject to disqualification as well.
- Felony conviction
- Conviction, deferred prosecution, or deferred judgment of a misdemeanor within three years of the application date
- Any driving arrest or conviction within three years of the candidate's application that involves alcohol, controlled substances, drugs, or other illegal substances
- Any pending or prior convictions of, deferred prosecution, or deferred judgments for reckless driving or careless driving resulting in an injury within three years prior to the application date
- Certain misdemeanor criminal convictions, as defined by P.O.S.T., which would affect peace officer certifcation in Colorado
Selection process:
- Complete City of Florence Application
- Minimum standards review
- Pre-employment background investigation
- Oral board interview
- Psychological, drug, and physical screens
- Final interview
- Conditional offer
Note: Aside from P.O.S.T., or statutory-related disqualifying issues, FPD reviews applicant backgrounds for overall suitability, rather than for any particular items that may be disqualifying. Regardless, critical items, including but not limited to significant undetected criminal acts, evidence of dishonesty, or evidence of ongoing substance abuse, will result in immediate disqualification from further consideration.
